A mother-daughter duo was arrested Monday for a seemingly unprovoked attack in a Margaritaville bathroom.
Alyson Gahagan, 21, of Henry Street, Norwalk, was charged with felonious assault, and her mother, Debbie Kerns, 41, of the same address, was charged with complicity to felonious assault.
The alleged victim, Elaine Howey, 57, told police the women “snapped” on her while they were waiting in line to use the restroom at the Fremont Avenue restaurant on Sept. 7, according to a Sandusky police report.
Gahagan allegedly began arguing with Howey when she and her mother walked into the restroom. A witness said Kerns originally tried to defuse the argument but became irate when Howey made a comment to her daughter, the report said.
At that point, Kerns allegedly pinned down Howey’s arm while Gahagan repeatedly punched her face.
Howey was treated at Firelands Regional Medical Center for a one-inch bleeding gash on her forehead, the report said.
The establishment’s owner later said the assault was an escalation of an incident that occurred elsewhere, the report said.
Howey was able to track down Gahagan and Kerns through mutual friends on Facebook and took that information to police, Sandusky police Lt. Robery VanScoy said. Warrants were issued for their arrests, and they turned themselves in Monday afternoon.
