50 years ago, 1963: King Mohammed Zahir Shah of Afghanistan spoke before the Afghan Student Association at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He said he felt some constitutional changes would made to bring the government closer to the people.
25 years ago, 1988: Thousands of San Francisco Bay area Christians were convinced the end of the world was at hand. Sept. 11 was the date for the beginning of the end according to Edgar Whisenant, a born-again Christian who claimed the Rapture was coming.
10 years ago, 2003: Erie County Commissioner Nancy McKeen had her car struck by lightening. She was not injured, but her car was dead after the strike, stranding her in a downpour in Marion County.
