50 years ago, 1963: Cedar Point's new $200,000 water ride opened - three months late - and was packing the riders in like sardines. The new Mill Race ride whisked passenger-filled logs around chutes and down a 32-foot flume, drenching riders to their glee.

25 years ago, 1988: Millions of flying Asian cockroaches emerged from larval stage to invade Florida and eventually the Southeast. The roaches, thought to have come from an Asian cargo vessel, infested some areas with a quarter million roaches per acre.

10 years ago, 2003: The Erie County Dog Warden reported that coyotes were "coming out of the woodwork" in the Plum Brook area. In the  most recent incident a coyote got  into a backyard on Bogart Road and attacked a small dog.
