50 years ago, 1963: Roger MacPhee, Sandusky High School student and newsboy, won the Sandusky Register's "Operation Enterprise." He was one of 100 news carriers from across the nation to win an all-expense trip to Washington D.C.
25 years ago, 1988: The lingering drought and heat wave set another round of records in the area, with 100-degree readings being reported from at least five National Weather Service stations. Over 700 people sought relief at Surf's Up Wave Action Pool.
10 years ago, 2003: Former POW Jessica Lynch was heading home to West Virginia, nearly four months after she became a hero when she was rescued by special forces during the Iraq War. The private first class was soon to be released from Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
