50 years ago, 1963: Six fishing enthusiasts were stranded on the Huron Pier during an evening storm with 60 mph winds. The group made it to the block house and waited for rescue, unable to fight the waves washing over the pier. The tug "Alpena" was sent to rescue the group after several hours.
25 years ago, 1988: B.J. Thomas hooked hundreds of fishermen and fans at a free concert at Battery Park Marina. Thomas was the featured attraction of the K-Mart Arthur Smith Walleye Tournament.
10 years ago, 2003: Norman "Nubbs" Ehman, 78, received honorary diplomas from both Perkins High School and Norwalk High School. The local sports fan was well known for supporting the team and passing out candy to kids. His high school career was cut short due to World War II.
