50 years ago, 1963: Plans were announced for the sixth year of drive-in church services sponsored by the First United Presbyterian Church in Huron. The services ran from June through September at the Sandusky Drive-in Theatre. The services were non-denominational and ran "rain or shine."
25 years ago, 1988: Proclaiming himself the "responsible government in exile since 1968," former Minnesota Sen. Eugene J. McCarthy presented himself as the Consumer Party candidate for president of the United States. "Eugene McCarthy, the peace candidate, is back" proclaimed Party Chairman Lance Haver.
10 years ago, 2003: Local singer and entertainer Jimmy "Cleats" Bilgen wrote a song called "Rock On LeBron" to commemorate basketball phenomenon LeBron James being picked as the number one draft pick for the Cleveland Cavaliers. His CD was available for $5.
