50 years ago, 1963: Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at a Cleveland Heights church, saying his non-violent fight to break down barriers of segregation disarmed opponents. King told the crowd, "They do not know how to meet us, knowing we will not strike back. There is something about this method that is powerful."
25 years ago, 1988: Perkins Township gave a Detroit man a 30-day trial period to give helicopter rides in the Sandusky area. The approval allowed Rick Havarter to run the Jet-Lift Helicopter ride from a piece of ground just north of Davlin Farm Market on Milan Road through June 15 of 1988.
10 years ago, 2003: New Yorkers celebrated the 120th birthday of the city's iconic Brooklyn Bridge. Scores of New Yorkers turned out to ride, run, and walk from lower Manhattan to Brooklyn. The bridge, designed by John Augustus Roebling, opened in 1883.
