50 years ago, 1963: The role of "Gidget" became a way of introducing promising young talent to film stardom. Sandra Dee played the role in 1958, followed by Deborah Walley. Cindy Carol was the third to play the part in "Gidget Goes to Rome" in 1963.
25 years ago, 1988: Skateboarders were banned from downtown sidewalks in Sandusky. After a public hearing, Sandusky city commissions voted 5-1 to ban the boards from the central business district bounded by Adams, Hancock, and Decatur streets and Sandusky Bay. Commissioners also voted to discuss building a skateboarding facility for all county residents.
10 years ago, 2003: Sandusky Police Department received a new patrol boat. The 26-foot Boston Whaler Justice was equipped with long-range Simrad radar and a Northstar color global positioning system. Assistant Police Chief Gary Lyons began applying for grants for the new boat about three years prior.
