50 years ago, 1963: Mrs. Esther Bruggeman was nominated for the Jaycettes "Woman of the Year" award by Bellevue club members. She was the mother of five children and for more than 32 years she cared for 65 children, two of whom she adopted.
25 years ago, 1988: Drivers of more than 75 semi-trucks staged a slow-down on the Indiana Toll Road to protest Indiana's 55 mile per hour speed limit and higher fuel taxes. The trucks traveled at 40 mph and refused to pay their tolls at the eastern edge of the toll road.
