25 years ago, 1988: In local elections Ohio Senate President Paul Gillmore, R-Port Clinton, won the Republican nomination with just 58 votes over Robert Latta, Ohio Senate 2nd District candidate George Mylander was bested by Betty Montgomery, and Michael Dukakis won a heartland landslide in Ohio over rival Jessie Jackson.
