Lawn Doctor treats it green

A retired Danbury Township principal is spending a lot of time on the green these days.
But Ross Klima isn’t golfing — he’s now a franchisee for a national lawn care company. Klima recently kicked off his new endeavor after signing on with the Lawn Doctor.
“They know what they’re doing, they have a structure in place,” Klima said of the company. “There’s so much to do when operating a business — little things you don’t even think about. They’re are on top of it.”
Klima will serve as the company’s representative in the Fremont, Sandusky, Elyria and Amherst areas.
He spent about 22 years in education, but he opted to retire when he started seeing changes he didn’t like.
Horticulture was always his hobby, and he was always particular about his lawn. So when he retired from education, the lawn care business seemed a natural fit.
“People have a lot of pride in their lawns,” he said. “I look forward to helping them.”
He said he works to make his customers’ lawns the envy of their neighborhoods.
While he already knows horticulture quite well, he finds it reassuring to know Lawn Doctor’s specialists are available to help him find solutions to the tougher problems. The company has also placed him in a mentorship with an established franchisee.
Klima said he hopes to create a business his 4-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son can one day take over.
“My son is getting into it already,” Klima said. “He has been on ride-alongs and he has helped pull up dead sod.”
Founded in 1967, Lawn Doctor has more than 450 franchisees throughout America. The company maintains a solid presence in the $61 billion lawn care industry, said Brian Jaeger, Lawn Doctor’s spokesman.
