A Sandusky woman used a bottle of hot sauce to assault the father of her child Monday morning at their McDonough Street home, a Sandusky police report said.
Damita Collins, 33, was charged with felonious assault and domestic violence.
Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of McDonough St. at about 1:30 a.m., where they spotted Shente Laye, 34, bleeding from the face. As paramedics tended to Laye's injuries, police went inside to speak to Collins, whose shirt was covered in "a large amount of blood splatter." Collins, who also smelled of booze, said she didn't know anything about the attack, the report said.
A witness told officers she saw Collins whack Laye in the head with a bottle of hot sauce. And indeed, on a kitchen counter, officers found a bottle of Kurtz Louisiana hot sauce covered in specks of blood. When police talked to Laye again, he said Collins told him to leave, but as he headed for the door she hit him in the head with the bottle, the report said.
For her pat, Collins told police "she was tired of being assaulted by Shente and (she) had to defend herself," the report said.
Collins was taken to the Erie County jail, then released at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
