50 years ago, 1963: The Soviet Union announced it fired an un-manned, 3,130-pound research vehicle towards the moon from the orbit of an earth satellite. A Soviet astronomer hinted it may next land a robot observatory on the moon's surface.
25 years ago, 1988: Sandusky's "Waterfront Watchdogs" said they had the backing of 1,126 area residents in their quest for a place to fish off the city's pier track property between McEwen and Ogontz streets. The group collected the signatures to demand public access to the property.
10 years ago, 2003: Entertainment flashbacks: 1953 - The first feature-length, color, 3-D horror movie, "House of Wax" starring Vincent Price, premiered in New York. 1957 - Ricky Nelson sang for the first time on the TV show "The Adventures of Ozzy and Harriet." He performed Fats Domino's "I'm Walking." 1961- Bob Dylan made his first professional appearance at a club in New York's Greenwich Village.
