50 years ago, 1963: Huron High School delegates to Girls State, sponsored locally by the American Legion Auxiliary and Junior Women’s League, were Karen Sijan, Jane Sennett and Cherryl Thaxton.
25 years ago, 1988: Shawn Trueman, senior at St. Mary Central Catholic High School, was awarded a summer intern science scholarship at Firelands College. He won the scholarship for the Physics Olympics competition at Bowling Green State University.
10 years ago, 2003: A Harry Potter fan paid $8,000 for a signed copy of the latest, unreleased installment of the boy wizard’s adventures. The winner of the online auction took home nothing, the book had yet to be printed. A British charity group sparked frenzied bidding when it announced the sale of the long-awaited “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” the fifth book of the series.
