50 years ago, 1963: An illegal entry discovered at the Elks Lodge Hall on Adams Street was under investigation. Drawers had been ransacked, but only three six-packs of soda pop were missing. Cash, candy, snacks and cigars were not disturbed. Police were investigating. 

25 years ago, 1988: U.S. Postal Service raised their rates, effective Easter Sunday. The cost to mail a first-class letter increased from 22 center to a quarter, and a postcard went from 14 cents to 15 cents.

10 years ago, 2003: For the 13th consecutive year, Sandusky was named as a Tree City U.S.A. by the National Arbor Day Foundation. To become a Tree City, a community must meet four standards: a tree board or department; a tree care ordinance; a comprehensive community forestry program; and an Arbor Day observance.
