50 years ago, 1963: The winter of 1962-63 tied with the winter of 1917-18 as the third coldest on record, with 14 days of below-zero temperatures. The coldest winter ever recorded was 1884-85, when below-zero readings were made on 21 days, second coldest was 1935-1936.
25 years ago, 1988: Castalia Police Chief Clair McCreery retired from the force after 18 years as chief and 28 years total on the Castalia Police force. A dinner in his honor was held at Cold Creek Cafe.
10 years ago, 2003: The Righteous Brothers performed at the Sandusky State Theatre. Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley had worked together for almost four decades and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
