50 years ago, 1963: The Corps of Engineers at Buffalo advertised for bids for repairs to several Huron piers. The repairs included a 400-foot section of the West Pier, which was built 145 years ago.
25 years ago, 1988: Pamela Greulich, Sandusky High School senior, was picked to play trumpet in the American Musical Ambassador’s 17th Annual European Concert Tour for the summer of 1988. She was one of just five Ohio musicians to win the honor.
10 years ago, 2003: The SARS virus had citizens worldwide worried about the severe acute respiratory syndrome. The disease killed almost 60 people worldwide to date, with the majority of cases in Hong Kong and China. There is no known treatment. More than 1600 people were infected worldwide.
