The strike culminates more than seven months of regular negotiations and more than a month of protests from the teachers at board of education meetings. On Sunday teachers demonstrated at the Strongsville Police Department.
School Board President David Frazee called the teachers' decision "unfortunate," but said the district will move forward to "keep the schools open and keep everyone safe."
Substitute teachers will fill in. The district southwest of Cleveland has about 6,200 students.
