Huron County Deputy Josh Kaufman and his police dog, Gunny, went into the attic crawl space at a Grove Street home, searching for Dustin Bean, 22, Bellevue.
Gunny found Bean hiding in the rafters, according to the sheriff's office. Fearing the dog would bite him, Bean surrendered. At about the same time, the ceiling started to give way.
Kaufman and Gunny were saved from harm when Kaufman and his father, Sgt. Mark Kaufman, managed to pull the dog back into a safer part of the attic.
Bean was arrested on the felony warrant for theft, failure to appear, and an additional charge of obstruction of justice. He remains in the Sandusky County jail.
