Sandusky State Theatre hosts film; tribute to Dunn

"Heroes Behind the Badge" is a film produced by a former Miami Metro police officer after two of his best friends were killed in 2011, said Sandusky police Lt. Robert Vanscoy.
"It's a documentary film featuring men and women of law enforcement that have met some pretty hard encounters, and some that didn't survive the encounters," he said.
"It really just touches into the stories of what happened, how it happened, and the aftermath of it," Vanscoy said.
Dunn, shot and killed on March 19, 2011, is listed at the end of the film as an officer who died in the line of duty.
"We decided it would be a nice tribute to Andy to bring this here," Vanscoy said.
Before showing the film, bagpipers will perform, the Cleveland police department will present the colors and the National Anthem will be played.
Sandusky police officers will also present a wreath in honor of Dunn. After the film, Dunn's father and retired Sandusky police Officer Matt Dunn will speak.
"We want the community to be able to come see this with us, to support us. To see a little bit of what it's like to be a cop," Vanscoy said.
"I think it will be good for the community as a whole," he said.
Tickets are on presale at the Sandusky State Theatre and the police station.
Half the proceeds will go to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. The rest will benefit the children's program at the theater and the Andrew Dunn Memorial Fund with the Fraternal Order of Police.
