Earlier this year, public defender Jeff Whitacre said his office could spend up to $750,000 in taxpayer funds for resources needed to handle nearly 2,900 cases.
The $750,000 would surpass the $711,000 spent in 2011 and $682,000 expended in 2010, according to county finances.
County officials should tabulate the final figures within the coming weeks.
