Jonathon W. Tipton, 19, of Clyde, was driving a 1997 Grand Prix north on Township Road 220 in Riley Township, Sandusky County, at about 11:20 p.m.

The vehicle failed to negotiate a right curve just south of Ohio 412, and went off the left side of the roadway, veered across the right side of the road, went off the left side of the road again and struck a large tree. The impact caused the car to spin around. It came to a rest facing east, partially blocking the roadway.

Tipton was seriously injured and had to be taken by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. He was not wearing a safety belt.

Two passengers in the vehicle were also injured.

Attiah M. Fogle, 19, of North Canton, who was sitting in the right front seat, was seriously injured and also taken by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. She was wearing a safety belt.

Dustin J. E. Waugh, 19, of Chillicothe, who was sitting in the left rear seat, suffered minor injuries and was transported by Sandusky County EMS to Fremont Memorial Hospital. He was also wearing a safety belt.

Troopers are still investigating the crash. Speed is believed to be a factor. Alcohol use is unknown.
