The three days of hearings originally were scheduled to be open, but Fox had the right until the start of the hearing to have them in private.
The hearings, to be conducted before Ohio Department of Education referee Harry Taich, are concerning 23 allegations the Huron board of education has said warrant Fox's firing.
After the hearings, where witnesses will testify under oath, Taich will submit a written recommendation to the board, recommending that Fox either be reinstated or fired.
The board is not required to agree with the recommendation.
The accusations against Fox, many stemming from the 50-page Markling report, allege he carried on an improper business relationship with a district vendor, improperly submitted expenses for reimbursement related to a April 2011 trip to Arizona, and was involved in an extramarital affair on school time using school computers and email.
