The ice cream affected by the recall will have an expiration date on or before March 14, 2013. Any ice cream with an expiration date after March 14, 2013 is not involved in the recall because Toft's switched peanut butter suppliers.
There are been no reports of consumer illness associated with the recall.
The affected ice cream contains a peanut butter base manufactured by Sunland, Inc., which announced an expansion of a voluntary recall covering peanut products made in the company's Portales, New Mexico, plant. Those products have been linked to Salmonella outbreaks across the U.S. dating back to March 1, 2010. Ohio has yet to reported any illnesses from the Sunland's recall.
Buckeye Bites 48 ounce and 3 gallon tubs are the only items involved in the recall. No other Toft's products are affected.
Consumers who have an recalled item can cut out the date on the ice cream carton or tub and send it to Toft's for a full refund. The address is: Buckeye Bites, Toft Dairy, PO Box 2558, Sandusky, OH 44870.
