Stolen gerbils spark domestic violence

Jeffery Facemire, 42, was charged with disrupting public service and domestic violence.

When the family returned to their Ohio 60 home at about 3:30 p.m., they discovered the back window broken out and the gerbils missing, an Erie County deputy’s report said.

An argument ensued, and Facemire allegedly spit on the girlfriend. When the she spit back, he struck his 10-year-old son in the face, then grabbed his girlfriend by the throat and smacked her, the report said.

She broke free, but Facemire pushed her into a chair and to the ground, where he kicked and slapped her, the report said. When she picked up the phone to call 911, he took the phone away, the report said.

The woman and the boy then ran for the car with Facemire close behind. He emerged from the home wielding a kitchen knife, which he threw at the car, the report said. As the car pulled out, the knife struck and cracked the windshield.

When deputies arrived, Facemire said he didn’t do anything wrong — he accused his girlfriend of shoving him and said she made the rest of the story up, the report said.

On the way to jail, Facemire told deputies he was feeling suicidal, so they took him to Firelands Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was later released and taken to the Erie County jail, where late Monday he was being held without bond.
