Officials, residents to clear up blurry Greenway lines

Almost 11 months after MetroParks commissioners agreed to forfeit the 6-mile Huron River Greenway trail and allow the River Road residents to reclaim the riverbed as their own, both sides amicably progressed to end the dispute forever.

Commissioners along with Lisa and Edwin “Mick” Coles collectively contributed $36,000 for Hartung Title to survey the land and draw up distinct property lines — ensuring a land dispute along the controversial corridor never arises again.

“There was a lot of confusion on ultimately who owns what,” Erie MetroParks commissioner Kurt Landefeld said. “The lack of proper vetting of the title work added to the confusion.”

It’s unclear today exactly where each property owner’s jurisdiction reaches to, but land surveyors aim to remedy any ambiguities or land uncertainties.
