VIDEO: Obama speaks at Lorain County Community College

President Barack Obama on Wednesday took aim at Republican policies that benefit the wealthiest Americans at the expense of the middle and lower classes.

GOP policies past and present have crippled the U.S. economy and stunted job growth, Obama told a crowd of about 300 people at Lorain County Community College.

His 20-minute speech was directed at a gathering of the school’s current and former students, the latter of whom have since found employment through LCCC’s job-training program.

Obama wasn’t short on criticism for Republican notions about how to reinvigorate the economy and create jobs.

Chief among them: the George W. Bush-era plan that provided tax cuts to Americans who earn $250,000 or more a year.

The real casualties of such policies are the job-stimulating initiatives in the medical, environmental and educational fields, Obama said.

“It’s not like I love paying taxes, but I can afford it,” Obama said. “You make $1 million a year, and we say you should pay the same percentage as middle class families.”

Throughout his speech, Obama praised LCCC’s successes in reintroducing people to the work force.
