Sandusky crash pins sanitation worker between car, garbage truck

Emil Whitis • Nov 29, 2011 at 10:45 AM

A Sandusky man was seriously injured Monday night when a car struck him and pinned him against the back of a garbage truck on West Monroe Street.

Canfield-Hartley employee Chris Thompson, 39, was loading trash into the back of the garbage truck at about 5:30 p.m. near Gartland Avenue when he was struck by a 2010 Chevy Malibu. The collision pinned Thompson between the car and truck, where he remained for about 45 minutes until rescuers could free him.

He suffered severe injuries to his waist and legs, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said. He was taken to The University of Toledo Medical Center, where late Monday he was in serious condition.

The car's driver — Anthony Demore, 71, of Sandusky — was also injured and taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center.
