Area girls have a blast testing engineering prowess

About 100 junior high girls from five local schools got to rub elbows with NASA engineers Friday during a science and engineering conference at BGSU Firelands.
The event, funded by North Point Educational Service Center, aimed to teach the girls about the limitless possibilities of careers that draw math and science skills.
"Some girls feel a little intimidated, I think, because when they go to STEM events they find mostly boys," said Kelly Cusack, assistant director or educational outreach at BGSU Firelands. The girls launched paper rockets and built Lego robots to test their technical talents.
