A part-time Wakeman police officer was ordered to pay a $750 fine after he pleaded no contest to driving under the influence while off duty.
Norwalk Municipal Court Judge John Ridge also sentenced Paul Papai, 31, of Townsend Avenue, to three days in jail. The jail time was suspended, however, as long as Papai completes a three-day alcohol intervention program, standard treatment for a first-time offender, his attorney said.
His driver's license will be suspended until Sept. 13, although he'll be permitted to drive to and from work. The judge ordered a 180-day license suspension, but gave him credit for the suspension that's been in effect since his March 13 arrest.
It's not clear how the sentence impacts his status as an officer.
