LETTER: Keep Monaghan

The Nov. 4 election asks you to deploy the best person for the task of stabilizing our county resources and capture momentum in developing NASA, the U.S. 250 corridor and the expansion of sewer lines as a springboard for jobs. We have all faced a challenging year, and we have each probably made some painful choices. Now is not the time to change leadership.
Erie County Commissioner Bill Monaghan has invested a tremendous amount of time and experience over the last four years. We cannot afford to take a chance just because we do not like our current economic circumstances. For the first time in many years, we have not had to rapidly drain our county savings to meet our expenses. Instead if spending more than $2 million more than the county received in revenue, the county was very close to exactly matching expenses with revenue in the worst economic environment. Some jobs were lost, and many lives were affected by those losses. But hard times require difficult choices, which are best made by placing the community's long-range interests at the forefront. Bill Monaghan loves this community, and every day works to improve our future.
