LETTER: Unsung achievements

It was 6:15 a.m. on Saturday as I drove to Edison High School with my daughter. This was so she could board a school bus to attend a solo and ensemble program in Fremont.
I felt immensely grateful for what I saw when we arrived. The school bus was filling with high school students, all of whom had been practicing and working with their teachers to perform music at a day-long program. Parents were coming and going to drop off their students at a time of day when most would have much preferred to be sleeping. Teachers had spent hours helping the students to prepare. At the end of the day, the students' individual and group performances all received very high ratings.
The achievements of these musicians may not make headlines but the actions of all those parents, teachers and students represent one of the best attributes of the Berlin Milan School District. The Berlin Milan Schools and especially the music program has helped our young people enjoy and develop their musical abilities, a gift that enriches all of our lives in many ways. One day, our children will surely appreciate the gift of growing up in this community and we trust that they will pass on what has been shared with them to the next generation.
