REGISTER VIEWPOINTS: Accountability in Erie County
Mar 23, 2010 at 6:24 PM
Thumbs UP to Erie County Commissioners Bill Monaghan and Pat Shenigo for demanding progress reports -- and progress -- on many county projects seemingly left hanging -- particularly the l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ng-awaited cellular 911 emergency calling system.
Thumbs UP to the city of Huron for going green in a gray-matter kind of way, stepping back from a wind-turbine project because it wasn't a perfect fit for what the city had in mind. Green is good, we still say, but make sure it's green you can use. A step back and a second look, where possible, might benefit a few other green projects around here.
Thumbs UP to Logan Stieber of Monroeville for his fourth straight state wrestling title, and all the other local matmen and wresting programs that pinned titles and set records at the state championships last weekend.
Thumbs UP to homeowners like Sandusky's Helen Robinson, who saw the chance to fight foreclosures, took the chance and won. Her fight -- armed with resources and knowledge gleaned in part from community "Solutions" workshops sponsored by the Register -- is a heartening story in a time when so many people give up and walk away from their houses.
