Campaign benefits Osborn MetroPark

A national retail behemoth wants to spread some love to parks all across America, including a popular recreational area in Erie County.
Macy’s executives selected Osborn MetroPark as one of about 550 domestic green spaces to benefit from the company’s Heart Your Park campaign this month.
Customers shopping at Macy’s in the Sandusky Mall can contribute funds when cashing out at a register.
The fundraising initiative, starting today and lasting through March 31, promises two aspects to anyone donating:
•Each dollar donated at Macy’s in the Sandusky Mall will go toward developing Osborn MetroPark.
•For every dollar donated nationwide, Macy’s vowed to match that amount up to a maximum of $250,000. Osborn MetroPark, along with all the other participating parks, will split whatever this amount totals.
“Through this wonderful program and donations by Macy’s customers, we are excited about the increased awareness and additional funding for Osborn MetroPark,” Erie MetroParks executive director Amy Bowman-Moore said.
Park officials plan on devising a checklist of sorts to determine how they’ll spend this money at Osborn MetroPark.
“This is our most popular park by far, and it’s used for a whole variety of things, from sport tournaments to people walking their dogs,” Erie MetroParks commissioner Kurt Landefeld said. “We’re very appreciative, and we hope a lot of money is raised. However much is raised here locally will go toward the programs people who enjoy Osborn MetroPark”
