Streak Ended

Few area golf teams have had a better home course advantage than the one the Port Clinton boys have enjoyed playing at the Catawba Island Club.

Maybe it’s the fresh Lake Erie breeze? Or maybe it’s the tough greens that spook the Redskins’ opponents?

Still, all good things must come to an end.

Despite Shane Meek’s low round of 39 on the par 36 layout, Port Clinton’s team total was third-best in Wednesday’s Sandusky Bay Conference tri-match losses to Perkins, 184-189 and Huron, 185-189.

The losses ended a 29-match home win streak, which dated back to 2010.

Shane did what a No. 1 man has to do. He played very smart and very good golf,” Redskins coach Rick Dominick said. “Overall, you have to give credit to Huron and Perkins, No. 1 through No. 6, they just played better than we did. We need to just try to play better each time we get on the course.

Logan Dwelle’s 42 led the Pirates, who also received a 48 from Cam Foss, a 51 from Mike Piotrowski and a 53 from Brayden Hupp.

Huron was paced by Eric Myles, Max Martin and Riki Tanaka, who each carded a pair of 46s. Thomas Hufnagle added a 47.
