Rick Souter and Shawn Bahnsen will play a scheduled 36-hole match Saturday to decide the 2011 Mills Creek golf champion.

Souter, 54, earned his first trip to the finals with a 2&1 decision over 2009 champion Tim Belden of Port Clinton.

Meanwhile, Bahnsen, 24, continued his sub-par play with a 4&2 victory over Andrew Bolinger of Castalia.

Souter, a 1975 Perkins graduate, kept Belden from a third straight appearance in the title match. He was two down at the turn (nine holes) but won Nos. 2, 3 and 4 the second time around with pars to go 1-up. Belden eagled the short par-five No. 5 hole to square the match, but Souter came right back with pars to win on Nos. 7 and 8 to close out the match.

Souter is the 2008 Mills Creek senior champion. That was the same year Bahnsen won for the second time.

A 2005 Sandusky High School graduate, Bahnsen checked in with six birdies and was bogey-free on his card.

He birdied Nos. 1, 5, 6 and 7 to close out the match.

Bahnsen is seeking his third Mills crown and is in the final for the third time. His first crown came in 2006 when he also won the Erie County and Sawmill Creek championships.
