Marc Gibson admitted he was used to speaking last at the annual Sandusky Bay Conference football coaches golf outing, held Monday at the Sawmill Creek Golf Resort in Huron Township.
Each year, coaches from all eight schools talk about the prospects of the upcoming season in the order of how the standings were the previous year, from last to first.
Given the Fliers have won the SBC for four straight seasons, Gibson, entering his seventh year as the head football coach at Clyde, is usually the last to stand up and address the crowd.
Should the preseason selections for the coaches and media play out as predicted this season, Gibson can expect to speak last next July.
"My thoughts are the same I've given every year. It's nice to have expectations, it's nice to be on top, and I'd rather be here than climb from the bottom up," Gibson said.
Clyde was one vote shy of a unanimous pick to win the SBC a fifth straight year among the coaches, and a unanimous pick among the six media members in attendance.
