The most successful season in a decade, resulting in the first playoff appearance in two decades for Sandusky football program earned official accolades Thursday.
The Associated Press All-Northwest District football teams was released, and three Blue Streaks were first-team selections in Division II while another was a second team selection and two more earned honorable mention honors.
Running back Cordney Strickland was a first-team selection after running for 1,483 yards and 17 touchdowns in the regular season. The senior ran for nearly 300 yards and six touchdowns in Sandusky's two playoff games as well.
Senior defensive lineman Jaron Green and linebacker Phil Henderson were also first-team selections for Sandusky. Green made 51 tackles and six sacks while Henderson had 119 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss.
Senior linebacker Jaylen Guevara was a second-team selection at linebacker with 117 tackles and three interceptions.
Receiver Tristen Jeffries and defensive back Dameyion Smith, both juniors, earned mention selections.
Fifth-year Sandusky coach Mike Franklin earned Co-Coach of the Year honors in Division II after guiding the Streaks to a 6-4 mark, their first winning season since 1999 and the first playoff appearance since 1990. Wapakoneta's Doug Frey shared the honors.
The Streaks went on to upset unbeaten No. 1 seed Avon in the first round before falling to Maple Heights in the second round.
Also in Division II, Norwalk (3-7) landed four players on the list, highlighted by a first-team spot going to senior linebacker Mike Montana.
Montana led the Northern Ohio League with 98 tackles while adding three sacks and two fumble recoveries for the Truckers.
Senior Trevor Ishee was a second-team selection at receiver with 43 catches for 516 yards and five touchdowns while quarterback Jake Fetherolf and running back Dustin Crabtree were special mention selections.
Clyde, Oak Harbor land five on first team
Five players from the Sandusky Bay Conference -- all from Clyde and Oak Harbor -- landed spots on the first team list in Division III.
For Clyde (9-1), senior Jordan Colson was a repeat selection at kicker after connecting on 35 of 38 extra points while adding seven field goals, including two from 44 and 49 yards out.
Senior defensive lineman Trevor Strickland was a first-teamer after making 48 tackles and 11 sacks while sophomore Bennett Brown is a first-team selection at linebacker with a team-high 80 tackles.
For Oak Harbor (7-3), senior running back Jake Scott and senior offensive lineman Jake Grzymkowski were first-team selections. Scott ran for 1,227 yards and 12 touchdowns on 250 attempts for the Rockets.
The area landed eight players on the second team and seven on the special mention team.
Joey Mallernee (88 tackles, two sacks) and Davey Burkett (111 tackles, two interceptions) were selections at linebacker and defensive back for Oak Harbor while Bellevue's Miles Foos (38 catches, 522 yards, 8 TDs) and Luke Lyden were chosen at receiver and offensive line.
Clyde's Mac Wilkerson (38 catches, 571 yards, 6 TDs) and Alex Jess were also receiver and offensive line selections.
For Perkins, defensive lineman Michael Ebert (88 tackles, nine sacks) and running back Richard Hohler (175 att., 917 yards, 10 TDs) were also second team selections.
Earning special mention honors included Willard's Cam Cok (DB), Bellevue's Mike Bodyke (LB), Clyde's Thomas Glick (LB), Gabe Gilbert (LB) and Ryan Meyer (QB) along with Oak Harbor's Zach Priesman (DB) and Josh Warnke (WR).
