THOMPSON — The Monroeville Eagles had no answer Friday night for Dan LaRosa.
The Ledgemont junior rushed for 215 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns in leading the Redskins to a 47-21 Division VI, Region 21 quarterfinal win at RW Sidley Field.
The Eagles end the season at 8-3, while Ledgemont moves to 11-0 and will face Mogadore Friday in Region 21 semifinal playoff action.
Mogadore topped Buckeye Central 37-21.
Eagles coach Dan Periat was proud of his squad.
“I’m real proud of these seniors and these kids,” he said. “These seniors liked to have fun and matched my personality real well.
“Tonight, we were in position to make tackles on their back, but just missed them. That will be a point of emphasis in the offseason,” the coach added. “Tonight’s game just came down to basic fundamentals.”
Eagles junior Cory Long led the way with 150 yards rushing and a TD.
"Tomorrow, I’ll watch this film and start working on next year,’’ Periat said.
The Eagles took a 7-0 lead just over a minute into the contest when QB Ryan Stower hooked up with senior Justin Jones on a 63-yard TD pass.
The Cory Smith point after capped the drive.
The Redskins responded with a 17-yard scoring pass from QB Shane Ritts to wideout Jim Marsic.
Brad Marsic ran in the 2-point conversion, good for an 8-7 Redskin lead.
Ledgemont went up 15-7 after Ritts found Derek Cantrell from 18 yards out.
It was 21-7 early in the second on LaRosa’s 10-yard run.
The Eagles countered with Chris Phillips’ 4-yard TD run, trimming it to 21-14.
Ledgemont bounced back to go on top 27-14 when Ritts found Brad Marsic from 16 yards away.
The Eagles threatened right before the half, but Stower was intercepted.
Monroeville cut it to 27-21 early in the third on Long’s 8-yard run.
Ledgemont struck back on LaRosa’s 52-yard gallop.
It was 41-21 after Ritts and Brad Marsic connected again, this time from 47 yards.
