Carroll dramatically reduces his soda consumption

This has been a great past week.

I met my personal trainer, Tony Johnson, at Keegan Sports Training Academy and worked out for the first time with him on Tuesday night.

He had me doing a lot of stretching, body weight resistance and exercises that require balance.

I was doing well until he put me on the wall for sets of push-ups mixed in with sets of squats.

I thought I was on the verge of passing out at one point.  I was hot, short of breath, my muscles were burning and my heart started racing.

Moments later, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was at the end of the workout and had survived!

I am pleased to have my wife, April, working out with me and Tony as well.  Tony believes it’s very advantageous to me to have her on board – and I agree.

We worked out with Tony again on Thursday and I already felt much stronger.

Some of the exercises we did were the same as Tuesday, but most of them were new.

We began to use resistance bands to strengthen our core, work our arms, and then pull each other up and down the artificial turf field inside the facility.

My legs were on fire!

Tony is such a patient and encouraging trainer that you want to impress him by putting forth your best effort.  The feeling you get after a workout is finished is amazing.

When not working with Tony, I have been riding the bike 3.8 miles at least once a day, several days I’ve done it twice.

April and I have also done some 45 minute walks together.  I know that doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a huge step in the right direction for me.  My muscles are all feeling it!

The hardest and most important part of this journey is getting my diet in order.

My most immediate goal is to reduce my consumption of Pepsi to one 20-once bottle a day.

I have been battling headaches from attempting this, and have had a second bottle of soda (Mountain Dew) a couple of the days when my head was really hurting.

I haven’t necessarily been eating different foods than I always have, but I have significantly reduced the amount of food I consume.

I’m being careful not to make myself so miserable that I quit!  I’ve already lost 4 pounds!
