Wine festival a volunteer opportunity

•Help is needed to host the Toast of Ohio Wine Festival on Saturday, July 26, in downtown Sandusky. Volunteers can choose from many different, fun shifts and stay after to enjoy all the festivities.

•Volunteers are needed to assist people with choosing items from the shelves at a food pantry for various short shifts on weekdays.

•Like to dress up in costumes? Volunteers are needed to dress up like Zombies for the Zombie Run on Sat. July 12. Theatrical make-up, lunch and a $25 donation to your favorite charity will all be provided in exchange for your help! Minimum age is 14.

•Individuals can help adults with disabilities by volunteering on movie day, driving a truck, doing simple office work, reading to a group, or helping with outings.

•Hair dressers, manicurists, massage therapists or anyone who could provide a service for cancer survivors, are needed to help at an event beginning at 1 p.m. Sat. Aug. 2.

•Do you clown around a lot? You could help with a circus themed event for children on Aug. 1 or 2. Volunteers are needed to act as clowns, help serve cotton candy and lead activities. The hosting agency is also in need of circus or carnival type props and games if you have any you could loan to them.

•The first Farmers Market at Zion Lutheran Church will be July 17. Come help distribute healthy food for people in your community.

•The Back to School Rally noon-3 p.m. Aug. 9, needs volunteers to help with set up and activities. This event gears children up for the school year and encourages them to do well in their studies.

•The Stuff the Bus Campaign for 2014 is up and running. If you would like to donate school supplies to make sure children in your community are ready to succeed in school, please bring them to The Volunteer Center. If you would like a collection box for your business or church we will gladly deliver one to any location.

•Old electronics are still being accepted for recycling. Almost anything with a cord or small electric motor will be recycled and kept out of our landfill. To arrange for drop-off or pickup arrangements please call 419-627-0074 or e-mail volunteer@ thevolunteercenter.com
