Moments, milestones and answers

Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after.

It can be an all-too-common occurrence to get so caught up in life that we often find ourselves lost amidst it. How is it we each came to our own points in life? Which events crafted our path one twist and turn at a time that we each wound up where we are? To continue the searching, where does it lead us?

There are reminders in the present such as the Mindfulness Bell to assist us. So too are ongoing services in various faiths everywhere to harken back to culturally common values and points of view. If we look, we can even find indicators of how future performance may be affected by decisions of the past and present.

With as fast-paced as life can be given the swirl of jobs, education, family, friends, politics, etc. please be sure to take a moment of reflection. Remember why you are where you are. Do you own a small business? Why did you start it? What was it like opening day compared to now? How did you meet a certain friend or significant other? Who, if anyone, helped you decide to join the military if you did such a thing?

Unearth the memories and reflect upon them. Each is a milestone that helps provide a frame of context for life and how we live it. Countless lives have been lived before yours, each able to offer advice, solutions, or act as milestones to see just how far we may or may not have traveled as an individual or society. It isn't just genes that are passed down through the ages, but memes as well.

Even though you are not a motorcycle circa 1910, would you like a kickstart in looking beyond?

Hold a metal fork. At one time the materials to make it were probably touching the core of our planet only to be violently shifted or erupted through the crust to wherever it was it was mined. In fact, the metal has existed since the time of the universes's creation. You are holding a direct descendant from the primordial celestial skies! Those same skies are time capsules telling tales of what happened thousands of years ago that we are only just now getting to witness in our "present"!

We cannot be quick to disregard the tragedy and pain we have suffered in life, however. Those are lessons hard-won that have the most to teach us. Suffering is not unique to our species, however the ways to address it are. Never before, with as connected and communicative we are, can we do more to learn about and from the lives of others in order to overcome strife and help instill dignity in those who feel left behind. It simply takes a moment of time in your life which itself is a moment of eternity. It necessitates an open mind. Answers to even unasked questions come from the habit ask, "Why do we say things like, 'A stitch in time saves nine'?"

Practicing these moments can open untold opportunities to understand yourself and our culture even more!

If you've been following the hyperlinks, you'll find that music put to an idea can do wonders to help convey the message even better than its original format. Learning from that, I would like to dedicate this song to you all in your own search for moments and mindfulness...your search for "Answers":

I close my eyes, tell us why must we suffer

Release your hands, for your will drags us under

My legs grow tired, tell us where must we wander

How can we carry on if redemption's beyond us?

To all of my children in whom Life flows abundant

To all of my children to whom Death hath passed his judgement

The soul yearns for honor, and the flesh the hereafter

Look to those who walked before to lead those who walk after

Shining is the Land's light of justice

Ever flows the Land's well of purpose

Walk free, walk free, walk free, believe...

The Land is alive, so believe...

Weather [Sleep] Wander [Sleep] Answer [Sleep on]

Now open your eyes while our plight is repeated

Still deaf to our cries, lost in hope we lie defeated

Our souls have been torn, and our bodies forsaken

Bearing sins of the past, for our future is taken

War born of strife, these trials persuade us not

(Feel what? Learn what?)

Words without sound, these lies betray our thoughts

Mired by a plague of doubt, the Land, she mourns

(See what? Hear what?)

Judgement binds all we hold to a memory of scorn

Tell us why, given Life, we are meant to die, helpless in our cries?

Witness [Feel] Suffer [Think] Borrow [Teach] Reason [Hear]

Follow [Feel] Stumble [Think] Wander [Teach] Listen [Blink]

Whisper [Blink] Shoulder [Blink] Ponder [Blink] Weather [Hear]

Answer [Look] Answer [Think] Answer together

Thy Life is a riddle, to bear rapture and sorrow

To listen, to suffer, to entrust unto tomorrow

In one fleeting moment, from the Land doth life flow

Yet in one fleeting moment, for anew it doth grow

In the same fleeting moment thou must live, die and know
