The bill is more efficient than the name, but we appreciate U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown's push for the Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act.
The reform assimilates income tax regulations across state boundaries, standardizing a program designed to fit a modernized economy where corporate and business travel is more frequent and much more common.
Prior to the reform, some states would levy an income tax for as little as one day's work in the state on companies and workers that have broad geographic territories. In some cases, the crossing regulatory disputes would involve neighboring states with conflicting laws.
Senator Brown worked closely with U.S. Sen. John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, pushed the bipartisan legislation forward with wide support. We're encouraged by these efforts, and hope we will see more reforms from Congress, and more push from Brown, for the change that will benefit Ohio and the state's economy and job market.
Progress in those areas is what will make the difference for our region.
