The Volunteer Center of Erie County has named its Youth for Excellent Service Award winners for October and November.
• Gabrielle Boyce was selected to receive the October YES! award
Gabby, a senior, was nominated for her service to Edison High School through Interact Club, which collaborates with the Rotary Club in Milan. They have accomplished many service projects school-wide, county-wide and internationally. She is also involved in National Honor Society, French Honors Society, Drama Club, band and Math Club. She also volunteered for the Humane Society.
Boyce plans to continue community service in high school and is especially interested in zoology. Gabrielle said, “We volunteer to give back to the community.”
• Ja’Shanti Hicks was chosen to receive November YES! Award
She was nominated by Deb Parker of Hancock Elementary School. Hicks is in sixth grade but has already been active in community service for two years, volunteering for Ability Works with Allison Young, Soft T-ball for special needs youth and Book Buddies. At school she serves on student council. She is also on Step Team and is a principal’s helper at Hancock. Hicks states “I love being active in my community, and I love helping anyone with disabilities!”
As winners, each will receive a certificate and $50 Visa Card. The Youth for Excellent Service Award is supported by the Buckeye Cable System.
