Lake Erie events Thursday

There are two events Thursday for folks who are interested in Lake Erie. As it's a bit late to publicize them in the paper, I am sharing the news with you here.

Author Loreen Niewenhuis, author of "A 1,000 Mile Great Lakes Walk," detailing her long walk around the lakes, and of "A  1000-Mile Walk on the Beach," chronicling her walk around Lake Michigan, will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (i.e., June 20) at Ida Rupp Public Library in Port Clinton.

"It's a rather dynamic presentation with photos and videos from my hike," she says.

Niewenhuis also will appear from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at A Touch of Italy Bed and Breakfast in Port Clinton, reading from her book and answering questions. More about her at her website.

Also, the director emeritus of Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab,  Charles Herdendorf, will give a lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday at Stone Lab on Gibraltar Island on "Battle of Lake Erie How Lake Processes Contributed to Perry's Victory."  If you're a military history buff and you can't make it to the island, you can watch it on your computer. Sign up here to view it online.
