It's a natural fit for the Ohio Veterans Home to have an expansive military museum.
The museum, which has more than 2,000 exhibits, is inside the Isaac Foster Mack Memorial Building, an historical structure itself on the OVH Campus named after the former owner, publisher and editor of the Sandusky Register. I.F. Mack, a Civil War Veteran and Prisoner of War held by the Confederacy, was instrumental in the campaign to locate the Soldiers' Home in Sandusky after the war.
The exhibits are organized across rooms in the building, separated by period and by war. It's staffed entirely by resident workers and volunteers and there are tours offered five days a week as well as access to the home's military reference library.
Many of the artifact are donated from residents and their families and it's been at the OVH since the mid-1990s.
We're glad to know more about this gem, and to add it to the growing list of museums of interest this area has to offer.
