BLOG: Cedar Point coasters may get more air time

Two of Cedar Point’s top roller coasters need your help to become even more famous.

The Travel Channel is conducting an online vote to determine which American coasters will be featured on upcoming episodes of “Insane Coaster Wars.”

If they receive enough votes, Millennium Force will be featured July 29 on the “Extreme Heights” episode and Top Thrill Dragster will be featured Aug. 5 on the “Speed Demons” episode. (You might also notice no Cedar Point coaster is a finalist for voting in the wooden-coaster category.)

You can vote anytime through June 1 at www.travelchannel.com//interests//family//articles//insane-coaster-wars.

The Travel Channel was at Cedar Point to film Top Thrill Dragster on May 13 and Millennium Force on May 14.

I was there only for the Millennium Force shoot, but I can say it was an interestingly different experience. (And a few freebie rides on Millennium Force can’t hurt.)

A couple trainloads of people took part in the Millennium Force shoot, which was coordinated by Cedar Point Marketing Programs Manager Bryan Edwards.

We waited for about an hour while several trains were sent through the circuit with nothing but water-ballast dummies in them and point-of-view cameras on them.

Then came the onboard shooting, with riders’ reactions. But if you want to see them — and the coasters — on TV, remember to vote.

In the end, what I really learned — or had reinforced, really — that morning is TV people like to get sound bites from pretty females.

Who knew?

But that’s OK; I’d much rather watch them than me, too.

For any Platinum Pass holders, don't forget tonight (May 25) is the first Millennium Force Ride Night of the season. Time to get some early-season bugs in the teeth.
