The dinosaurs ARE alive, or pretty close to it, at Cedar Point

Jason Werling • May 18, 2012 at 3:34 PM

I had a little help from a couple of Paleophotographers while checking out the preview for Cedar Point’s Dinosaurs Alive!. If you notice the photo credits you may see the last name of Werling in every one, but the first names differ a bit.

Will, 6, and Payton, 5, were very excited to be able to get a first look at the new exhibit even if it was a short visit since they had a baseball game just minutes after we had to leave Cedar Point. I'm sure we will have plenty of time to revisit the attraction and it's over 50 prehistoric creatures this summer.

Guests are greeted at the front of the park by a large Tyrannosaurus Rex, or something that looks very similar. My dinosaur identification skills are somewhat limited to T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops and Brontosaurus. I'm sure that will change by the end of the summer and my five-year-old will have them all memorized by the end of our next visit. That's how big of a dinosaur fan he is.

As big of a fan Payton is of dinosaurs, I don't think he is quite used to seeing them move and make noises. There were a couple times he wanted to hold my hand as we walked through the attraction. That should give you an idea of how realistic the dinosaurs look.

The walk through Dinosaurs Alive! is a little reminiscent of the historic Prehistoric Forest in Marblehead, but Cedar Point's dinosaurs are much more realistic and well worth the $5 admission. One thing I was pleasantly surprised with was the spots throughout the walk where Millennium Force wound through the paths and outstretched necks of the dinosaurs, much like the Corkscrew winds through the midway as you walk from one end of the park to the other.

Take your own Paleophotographers out to the park to check out the new attraction, you won't be disappointed.
