BLOG: Israel -- A paradise for women?

If you don't follow international news, here's a big story from Israel: An Arab man who pretended to be Jewish to obtain consensual sex with a woman has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for "rape by deception." Details here.

I wouldn't dare express an opinion in a case rife with touchy issues involving race, sex, deception and criminal law, but I do have a couple of questions:

1. If it's a felony in Israel for men to lie to women, does it follow that Jewish men are the most honorable and honest men on Earth, as a matter of self-protection? Or does this generalization apply only to Jewish men who live within reach of Israel's police force?

2. What about people in Israel who post personal ads on the Internet lying about their height, weight or personal income, or who upload photos of themselves that are 10 years old? Do only Americans do that?

3. If the Ohio General Assembly passes a law that says men can't lie to women, how will we pay for all the new prison cells?
