Strickland, Kaptur need to fix Erie County's goose egg

Governor Ted Strickland and U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur were all atwitter Wednesday when the announcement came that 86 of 88 Ohio counties will receive $1 billion in federal loan assistance guarantees. Erie County was one of just two counties that did not qualify, and Kaptur office offered up a convoluted reason why. Apparently, there were more people employed here in December 2008 than were employed here in December 2007.

OK. Well, there was no twitter for Erie County. The explanation is just downright weird, but our elected officials, through their spokespeople, provided it. Thanks for that.

Now, what will Strickland and Kaptur do to fix this? The municipal and county governments in Erie County are every bit, or more, deserving of this stimulus money as are the other 86 counties. So fix this. Just fix it.
